NU by Lara Costafreda

Lara Costafreda is 22 year old, a young fashion designer and illustrator, born in Llardecans, Lleida, Spain and currently living in Barcelona.

NU is one of her latest collections, its presentation was on June in “Sala Razzmatazz”, Barcelona. The name of my final degree Collection, it means “nude, naked” in catalan. The project was about the relation between fashion, human body, and art, in other words. NU is naked and honest, imperfect and deformed, bathed in white and transformed in a queer beautiful sculpture. Nu is an artistic, sculptural and pictorial representation of the human body, devoid of garments, seen from a standpoint grotesquely real and essentially human. See more and a brief chat with Lara;

Present yourself
I’m a real hard worker, versatile and overactive person! Pragmatic and rational in my work and impulsive and emotional in my personal life. I have studied “Fashion design” in BAU [Barcelona] and at Royal College of Fashion in Central Saint Martins [London]. I have also worked with the designers Ioannisdimitrousis in London and Cardona Bonache in Barcelona. And I have just received a scholarship to spend a year in Rio de Janeiro

Your sources of inspiration
Usually the inspiration comes to me randomly through the day…. the thinks around me, the people I love, the place where I live, the travels I do… all inspires me! Other times I get inspiration from artists works, such as the designer Martin Margiela, the photographers group “janfamily” or the graphic artist Jonathan Barnbrook, among others!

Who was your last partner on a collaboration?
With the photographer Eudes de Santana, we did the shooting of the Collection NU. And with the fashion designer Anna Mir , we have just sold a T-shirts collection in a Christmas market in Barcelona.

Rate 1 to 10 how was your last year and why
Maybe it’s a bit presumptuous, but I would rate this last year with 10! Until now, this year has been the best of my life. I have finished the career, I have done my final degree collection, which was really hard but wonderful at the same time. And I have got a scholarship to spend a year in Rio de Janeiro. It was a perfect year!
