L-E-A-R

LEAR is a Laboratory for Experimental Art & Architecture at the institute for design at Cologne University of Applied Sciences, it is headed by Architect Prof. Dr. Michel Müller, and it tackles the topics of artistic studies, experimental spaces, transformative architecture, building prototypes and architectural research.
The laboratory’s main focus is an integrative approach, taking ecological, economic, cultural, social and artistic aspects into account. It examines the interactions between these various aspects and assessed with a view to creating architecture for the future.

The following videos show their currently project called Narrative Spaces which goal is to create a space that communicates these basic needs through the design. See more;

Spatial Traces by Daniel Michel

Spatial Traces is an interesting work made by Daniel Michel two years ago. The aim of the project was the three-dimensional recording of a person’s movements through nature and landscape using a GPS-device and the materialization of these movements as a rapid-prototyping model. Space traces become an object.

Exploring the closed down furnace No.5 at the Duisburg-Nord Landscape Park turned out to be perfect for demonstrating the purpose of the project. See more;

The GPS-data was converted, imported into a 3D construction software and processed for the rapid prototyping print, in this case using Fused Deposition Modeling in ABS plastic. The support material used during the printing process was kept as part of the object, achieving a new architectural statement.

Dervishes in Space

DERVISHES IN SPACE is the new great project by Riese Farbaute, a young film production company from Hamburg, Germany. They  produce mainly fashion films and art films. This work is a fashion film trilogy revolving around three futuristic space travelers. When their space station crosses an unknown energy field, the astrogirls are transcended into a hyper-reality where their inmost desires and fears become uncannily vivid.
Dervishes in Space is a three-part fashion film series directed by Cristian Straub. The “Science Fashion Film Saga” merges elements from High Fashion, Science-Fiction, Music Video and Art Film into one cosmic (fashion) film experience. See videos;

“Dervishes” is a audio-visual reflection on the transience of beauty, of all being. Despite our mortality, we secretly strive towards eternity. Even though we know it’s irrational - there are those rare moments in time, which make you a promise, which make you believe it is possible after all.

This series of films is dedicated to those special moments of intense experience. Because it’s what all things celebrating beauty, be it art, fashion or film, are striving for: claiming a little piece of eternity.

lrich Strothjohann

The new work by german artist lrich Strothjohann (1954) is part of "Life's Coaching" his currently exhibition at MOT International, these beautiful sculptures will be at the gallery until next 2 April.  See more;

On first viewing of Ulrich Strothjohann’s new sculptural works one is reminded of a particular scene from David Cronenberg’s film Dead Ringers , 1988. Beverly (Jeremy Irons) designs his own special gynecological surgical instruments, which he commissions a sculptor to make. The Sculptor later steals the designs and exhibits them as art at his gallery. Strothjohann’s tools do not suggest the violence of surgical instruments but the ambiguity between function and form is a constant in his work. With this set of tools Strothjohann has designed purpose built display boxes. Each mirrors the tools’ contours, but then spiral off into other forms, reminiscent of amphitheaters, kitchen units and nautical design. The initial belief that you are close to a reading of these objects soon takes a conceptual U-Turn and confounds your preconceptions. - MOT International

The Cannon 150mm x 4500ml red

This fantastic  cannon is a piece of artillery created by Try One, it uses gunpowder or other usually explosive-based propellants to launch a projectile. Cannon vary in caliber, range, mobility, rate of fire, angle of fire, and firepower; different forms of cannon combine and balance these attributes in varying degrees, depending on their intended use on the battlefield. See more;

Cannon is derived from the Old Italian word cannone, meaning large tube, which came from Latin canna, in turn originating from the kannē—Greek for cane, or reed, and then generalized to mean any hollow tube-like object; ultimately deriving from the Akkadian term qanu, meaning tube or reed.

Gun specifically refers to a type of cannon that fires projectiles at high speeds, and usually at relatively low angles; they have been used in warships extensively, and as field artillery, as well.

Car Prints

Smart

BMW Z4

Bonitas impresiones realizadas por Sarah Illenberger, creativa con sede en Berlin. Cubrió los coches con pintura que se aplica con las manos y dedos, y luego hizo estas impresiones cubriendo los coches con telas. Me gusta la idea y el resultado, es como el proceso contrario de cuando se añade una textura en un objeto 3D, me recuerda al UV mapping cuando está abierto. Ver más dentro del post;

English info after the jump;

Cool prints by Berlin based creative Sarah Illenberger. She covered some cars with fingerpaint and then made these huge prints with them. I really like the idea and the result, it's the oposite process when adding texture in a 3D object, the prints remind me when UV mapping is opened.
You can find a german article about it here. See also a great (video) article about her last work here.
