Jasper Elings

Damn! the work of Jasper Elings wasn't published directly here despite I'm a huge fan of him from long time ago. I'm sure you already know some of his pieces or at least have seen something while surfing the internet as Jasper's work has been highly viral. His simple but great concepts are usually based on the internet culture as you can see on the selection of pieces into the post which probably were created 2 years ago. Jasper is lately quite focused on 3D animation as I saw what he is sharing on fb but of course continuing with the same sense of humor than his previous works and animated gifs which some of them have thousand of notes, have a look to his tumblr. cyclo.id

"Ryoji Ikeda and Carsten Nicolai both work at the cutting-edge of contemporary electronic music and sound art. In 1999, the two artists initiated the joint project cyclo., which is devoted to the visualization of sound. In their shared work, they generate new hybrid forms of audiovisual art and expand the possibilities of digital technology.

The project's first publication is cyclo.id, a book and included CD-ROM that offer a multimedia and interactive documentation of the audiovisual material that Nicolai and Ikeda have collected, researched, and created since they began working together. The featured images are formed by the metering of sound bits that have been selected by the artists with meticulous care according to their acoustic and illustrative potential." -  Gestalten. See more;

It's posible to buy cyclo.id at Gestalten

This is a nice video/talk where Carsten Nicolai speak about his work and about another previous good book he made while ago, called Grid Index, the first comprehensive visual lexicon of patterns and grid systems.

56 Broken Kindle Screens

56 Broken Kindle Screens, 2012 is a collaboration project  by Sebastian Schmieg and Silvio Lorusso_
"56 Broken Kindle Screens is a print on demand paperback that consists of found photos depicting broken Kindle screens. The Kindle is Amazon's e-reading device which is by default connected to the company's book store.

The book takes as its starting point the peculiar aesthetic of broken E Ink displays and serves as an examination into the reading device's materiality. As the screens break, they become collages composed of different pages, cover illustrations and interface elements." See more;

You can order the book here, it costs only £3.

The Wizard of Oz experiment & Book

Dennis Neuschaefer-Rube made two projects based on the "The Wizard of Oz" movie, one is a video/video-installation called "The Wizard of Oz experiment" which shows the movie 5829 times side by side. The movies are arranged in rows from left to right and time shifted by exactly one second each. The video starts at the top left, with the first second of the film and finishes bottom right with the last second of the film. The projection is in a continuous loop that repeats every 98 minutes. A computer voice speaks the whole subtitles of the film „The Wizard of Oz.“ in a 68-minute loop.
And the other one is a book, containing 98 pages where the images (frames) are arranged chronologically in rows from left to right. See more;

The Wizard of Oz – Book

In the book, "The Wizard of Oz", all of the 140,000 filmstills of the movie are published. On 98 pages the images are arranged chronologically in rows from left to right. One page contains 1440 pictures which correspond to exactly one minute of film. So the page numbers also show the minute of the film from which the stills were taken.
