Jonas Lund



The following websites are four of my favorite works by Jonas Lund. All of them have been created this year. I really like the powerful but simple concepts he develops using the web.
Lund was born in Sweden, currently lives and works in Amsterdam. Please click the following images or links to check out the different pieces. See more;


This Place In Time displays all visitors locations, continuously updated to be centered on the last one. By collecting litle by litle every spot in the world.




A Website that loads itself over and over again. 





See what Jonas see through total transparency, it consists in a browser extension which sends every website he is currently viewing to imhereandthere.com. It refreshes as soon as Lund visits a new website. It works a bit like a mirror to his browser and life.





A 47 tones of blue pop up performance. Just follow the indications on the site to run the piece correctly.

Hitoshi Nomura



Hitoshi Nomura made ‘Moon Scores’ between 1975 and 1979, the project consisted to take photographs from the lunar body moving across the night sky.  Nomura marked the film  with five lines, turning the photographs series into an item of musical notation. Transferring the notes to staff paper, he then had the chance compositions performed by a chorus and a string quartet. Later Nomura made a similar series called "birds" photographing just birds. Prop-er Benches by Oscar Medley-Whitfield



I like this product created by Oscar Medley-Whitfield who presented this great concept at New Designers in London last week. The Prop-er Benches each have one shortened pair of legs so they need to rest on the surface below. See more;

"Due to each bench being a separate entity from the last, they can be arranged into a number of different formats allowing them to easily adapt to different situations, contexts or simply personal preferences
Although the benches are not physically bound it is their reliance on each other that forms their bond. The benches co-operate with one another to prop themselves up, creating three key surface heights." - Oscar Medley-Whitfield

Markus Kayser



I'm really impressed after watching the last two projects by Markus Kayser, these are two of the best and experimental processes I have seen lately to make self-production. Both projects use the sun as a main source  for producing or manufacturing the final object or product. The first one is called "Sun Cutter" 2010, works like a laser-cutter, exploring the potential of harnessing sunlight directly to produce objects. The second one called "Solar Sinter" 2011, sunlight and sand are used as raw energy and material to produce glass objects using a 3D printing process, that combines natural energy and material with high-tech production technology. Sun Cutter Project

"The Sun Cutter Project explores the potential of harnessing sunlight directly to produce objects. The machine is a low-tech, low energy version of a laser cutter. It uses pure sunlight, focused by a ball lens, to repeatedly cut programmed shapes in up to 0.4mm thick plywood as well as paper and card. The project also explores the merit of analogue mechanized production that draws on the machine technology found in pre-digital machinery and automaton. It uses a cam system, moving an X & Y- board to control the shape of the cut. The cams are set into synchronized motion by a small solar-powered motor driving a timing belt.
Each pair of sunglasses made, even though very similar in shape, is still unique, creating a juxtaposition between the machine-made, repetitive and individual, unique object."

Solar Sinter Project

"In August 2010 I took my first solar machine - the Sun-Cutter - to the Egyptian desert in a suitcase. This was a solar-powered, semi-automated low-tech laser cutter, that used the power of the sun to drive it and directly harnessed its rays through a glass ball lens to ‘laser’ cut 2D components using a cam-guided system. The Sun-Cutter produced components in thin plywood with an aesthetic quality that was a curious hybrid of machine-made and “nature craft” due to the crudeness of its mechanism and cutting beam optics, alongside variations in solar intensity due to weather fluctuations.

In the deserts of the world two elements dominate - sun and sand. The former offers a vast energy source of huge potential, the latter an almost unlimited supply of silica in the form of quartz. The experience of working in the desert with the Sun-Cutter led me directly to the idea of a new machine that could bring together these two elements. Silicia sand when heated to melting point and allowed to cool solidifies as glass. This process of converting a powdery substance via a heating process into a solid form is known as sintering and has in recent years become a central process in design prototyping known as 3D printing or SLS (selective laser sintering). These 3D printers use laser technology to create very precise 3D objects from a variety of powdered plastics, resins and metals - the objects being the exact physical counterparts of the computer-drawn 3D designs inputted by the designer. By using the sun’s rays instead of a laser and sand instead of resins, I had the basis of an entirely new solar-powered machine and production process for making glass objects that taps into the abundant supplies of sun and sand to be found in the deserts of the world.

My first manually-operated solar-sintering machine was tested in February 2011 in the Moroccan desert with encouraging results that led to the development of the current larger and fully-automated computer driven version - the Solar-Sinter. The Solar-Sinter was completed in mid-May and later that month I took this experimental machine to the Sahara desert near Siwa, Egypt, for a two week testing period. The machine and the results of these first experiments presented here represent the initial significant steps towards what I envisage as a new solar- powered production tool of great potential." - Markus Kayser

WIM•BLE•DON by Bryan Ku



WIM•BLE•DON is a minimalistic interactive infographic documenting the final set of the 122nd Edition of the Wimbledon Championships Men's Final between Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer. The California based Graphic Designer Bryan Ku used the last part of this championships to represent it through a kind of minimal flipbook. See more;

Jordan Tate



Jordan Tate's New Work is an exploration of visual language and process. In a sense it is an examination of how we see, what we see, what merits being seen, and how images function in contemporary visual culture. The photographic image is still often viewed as a mechanical reproduction of reality. In this paradigm, the photograph functions not as an object, but as a conceptually transparent representation of a reproduced reality rather than an object loaded with historical and functional contexts.

I like his profile like visual artist and also like curator, Jordan Tate is the founder and editor of the contemporay art blog "i like this art", I recommended it!

Tate is seeking contributors/sponsors for his newly restructured Kickstarter project - prnt scrn: developing a new method of photographic output! The goal of the project is to create a new type of print that more readily replicates the context of screen-based viewing. The project information is below, or you can find it. See more;

Tate's work belongs to a growing group of photographers indebted to predecessors Christopher Williams and James Welling. Tate pushes the conversation beyond nostalgia and squarely into the present, however, by indulging in screen-based images and non-traditional output methods like lenticular screens, animated gifs, and 3-D anaglyphs.








PROJECT- prnt scrn: developing a new method of photographic output!

I want to create a new method of photographic output that approximates screen-based vision; I want photographs to glow in the dark, move, and change after they have left the computer and exist in physical space. I want to build new methods of printing, and examine the effects of various dynamic processes on the photographic print.
The ultimate product of this project will be the development of processes and works that address screen-culture and its impact on contemporary photography and new media by making prints that attempt to address the function and aesthetic of images on screen.

Experimental processes may include (but are not limited to):
Phosphorescent inkjet printing, DIY rapid prototyping, self-replicating 3D printer, lenticular printing, stereographic printing, light sensitive dot matrix printing
