ANTARTIC OBSERVATORY BY BORJA ABELLÁN

My good friend the young architect Borja Abellán presents the Antartic Observatory, this project was his Dissertation of Architecture at the University of Alicante.

The project consists in a observatory to control the icebergs in Antarctica,the main ideas are the aerodynamics form, to resist the push hard the wind, for his great speeds. The form of the observatory can allow snow provide thermal insulation and water supply, leaving half-buried. And finally, the facade is translucent, because the continent during half a year is day and which would save energy.

The structure responds to these requests, because it is a rigid structure , and the envolpe distributing loads, like a shell, so that the differentials seats are minimal. The main structure is of laminated-wood, and the shell is of stainless steel. See more;

 

The envelope is made with Corian, translucent, and the interior envelope is with Corian too. The insulation is with Aerogel, which properties and conductivity coefficient are very low.

The waterproof layer is with fiberglass with polyester resin, so you get the translucent facade or envelope.

All modeling is done with grasshopper which facilitates a parametric production to adapt to different solutions and the drawing structural elements, the construction is more easy using by CAD-CAM methods.

All the interior envelope is Corian with LEDs, a total of 93,200 LEDs, which illuminate the observatory. The LEDs are controlled by an Arduino board and controlled by computer, has several modes of operation.

The lighting are by zones and you can turn on with diferents intesinties. with the color you want, because the leds are RGB.

Also interaction between the LEDs and the environment. The envelope can copie the boreal aurora using camcorders, copying the color of the sky in its envelope. Information can also be transmitted by letters, or by the color of the envelope:

Associating RGB colour of LEDs to the weather, R: temperature, G: wind, B: humidity and according to the weather situation will be colored in one color or another.

IREK KIELCZYK

Abstraction, movement, imperfection, colored and b&w environments, the photography by Irek Kielczyk seems a perfect dream! He tells us how he started in the photography world and how is his creative process;

"I was born in Warsaw/Poland in 1967.I am self-tought photographer. At the age of 20 I left my homecountry to live in Cape Town/South Arica, where I discovered my passion for photography.Working as an assistant to some renowned fashion photographers ( Bruce Weber,Warren du Preez) gave me the chance to watch and learn many technical and psychological aspects of photography.

In the mid 90's I returned to Warsaw and started shooting for local fashion magazines.In a short time I established myself as one of top fashion and portraiture photographers in Poland.After photography went digital I began to experiment with various techniqes and subject matters .From that point my intersts have  changed from fashion photography to abstract imaginery.Currently  I live and work in Warsaw,Poland." "I try to create painterly Images rather than classic photograps.Mainly I use long exposures and play a lot with the camera movement as well as with the subject matter .With the use of digital technology I have countless amount of frames to use.This gives  me oportunity to be more spontanious while shooting.I never know which frame is the right one.The process of choosing the final Image from what I have shot plays also very important role.I don't use lots of equipment .I have one camera body and one lens .On the location I hardly ever use artificial light.My Images are not computer manipulated.

My Inspiration comes from the organic world .The variety of shapes ,textures,objects,and colours  influences my mind every second of my life.I try to convert some parts of the existing matter in to unique imaginery that lives its own life."

Juan Barletta

Very impressive oil paintings by Juan Barletta. The paintings seem photoshop or illustrator files, I really like their look.

Juan Barletta, born in Buenos Aires, 1974. He studied drawing and painting at Neuquen‘s Provincial School of Arts. In May of 2008 he went to art classes with Tulio de Sagastizabal an art teacher and painter. Although he has been being a self- taught artist in the year 2005 he made to art classes with Elsa Soiblman an art teacher and painter. Actually lives and works in Buenos Aires, Argentina. See more;

Collective Paper Aesthetics

Noa Haim (Jerusalem, 1975) master of advanced architecture, designer, journalist and contributing editor, based in Rotterdam is the creator of this project called Collective Paper Aesthetics, a play in design models. The work is expressing in a playful manner the notion of architecture as a framework. It is a participatory activity and construction toy, initiated in a site specific installation made for London Festival of Architecture 2008. See more;

In the format of Participatory Installation Collective Paper Aesthetics are hosting Laser engraver on site. This set-up is allowing CAD/CAM experience for visitors and supported by Epilog.com distributor in Germany, Universal Laser distributor in Japan and Coreldraw. The installation format customers are cultural institutions like Arcam, Amsterdam Triennale Bovisa, Milano Danish design centre, Copenhagen and organizations as imm cologne, Köln and Euromold, Frankfurt.

Our Cconstruction toy comprises re-usable paper building blocks. Similar to Meccano, it enables the building of working models. Unlike Meccano, the basics connect one to another by ‘click’, no glue, nuts or bolts are needed. Products are available in La Biennale Electa c/o Corderie dell'Arsenale bookshop, NAI Rotterdam, and Marta Herford museum bookshop.

Collective Paper Aesthetics was of the entry winners in Dezeen x Tokyo Design Association environmental container competition organized by dezeen.com and tdwa.com. Previously, the work received an honorable mention from Seoul Design Festival 2009 organized by design.seoul.go.kr and seouldesign.or.kr along with runner-up in Recycling design prize 2009 organized by recyclingboerse.org and Made in Macef organized by macef.it

Anarchitecture by Olivier Ratsi

Fascinated by graphics and electronic music, the ancient designer of the parties D-club and Automatik of the rex-club in Paris, Olivier Ratsi creates VJ Emovie in the 2000s to express his competences in video animation on electronic music.

Now Olivier is an active member of visual label AntiVJ since 2007, with whom he collaborates on various projects around audiovisual representation. His personal work is the WYSI*not*WYG project. See more;

What You See Is NOT What You Get

WYSI*not*WYG project is an artistic project. This work is mainly based upon representations of world’s perception and the experience of reality. Based on research started since 2005, this idea was implemented in different forms and formats : photography, multimedia installation, audiovisual peformance and mapping performance.

Anarchitecture is a photographic work that is part of WYSI*not*WYG project. These are images samples, drawn from our objective reality. The idea was to fragment a urban landscape from a sample (photography), breaking fixed elements up into several plans, while sticking to a faithful representation of the moving elements. These pieces reshape the evolution of urban landscape, and encourage the audience to interact with the artwork according to a visual reconstruction mental exercice.

In the project's website, pieces are classified by countries in order to show the spread of architectural changes. Works and pieces on this site suggest leads for thought and allow the audience to experiment urban landscape according to their own sensitivity. The aim is not to re-present the world as it is, but rather to suggest a new angle for observation and consideration.
