Valentin Ruhry at ACFNY

Hello World by Valentin Ruhry, composed of scores of illuminated rocker switches, speaks to both an interest in technology and the visual language of Minimalism. The switches turn on and off representing the simplicity of the technology and the binary number system's two-binary digits 0 and 1. The illuminated message is a nod to the “Hello World” computer program, one of the earliest programs that prints out "Hello World" on the computer screen. The piece creates a dialogue between the foundation of modern technology that now seems out-dated.  See more;

Fünf Räume, German for ‘Five Rooms’ presents five emerging artists from Austria. Daniel Domig, Clemens Hollerer, Zenita Komad & Michael Kienzer, Valentin Ruhry, and Esther Stocker, who have each been given the opportunity to transform a space within the galleries of the Austrian Cultural Forum New York (ACFNY), creating new, site-specific installations. On view through September 5, 2011.
