Diane Meyer

"Time Spent That Might Otherwise Be Forgotten" by Diane Meyer_
"This series is based on photographs taken at various points in Diane Meyer's life and arranged by location. Sections of the images have been obscured through a layer of embroidered pixels sewn directly into the photograph. The embroidery deteriorates sections of the original photograph forming a new pixelated layer of the original scene. The project refers to the failures of photography in preserving experience and personal history as well as the means by which photographs become nostalgic objects that obscure objective understandings of the past." Nicolas Deshayes

"Nicolas Deshayes’ sculptural installations use materials such as stainless steel and PVC to embrace the glossy aesthetics of 21st century design.  Despite such fascinations, his works maintain a human presence in the forms of glutinously rich, bodily allusions, which engage with materials in ways that distort the ordinary."- Jonathan Viner Gallery
Deshayes states, "I create hybrid sculptures that gather multiple familiar cultural and stylistic references in a way that leads to a strange sense of hyper-materiality." See more;

It was beautiful to see irl Nicolas' Vanille piece in a recent group exhibition at Cell Space Project curated by Attila Fattori. I appreciated to see the texture and relief onto the vacuum-formed plastic, this three-dimensional forms and the bright and glossy aspect reminded me a lot of digital based textures, so the "hyper-materiality" state that Nicolas generates it's pretty good. By the way it was a great exhibition featuring works by several artists I like, there is a review about the exhibition at Rhizome.

Nicolas Deshayes is exhibiting a new work created this year in a group exhibition in London, at Jonathan Viner Gallery until next February 16.  More info here.

Larry Bell

These works in paper by Larry Bell were made between 2007 and 2010, as Angel Chen says at artsland; technically these are collages, works on paper utilizing laminated layers compressed with a ping-pong table size heat press that vaporizes all sandwiched materials inside into a shiny flattened panel. The result? It is not a flat picture, nor is it a flattened sculpture, but it is a triumph of the favorite trick of all 2-D artists, to make appear the illusion of the third dimension. See more;

"Part sci-fi experiment, part modern physics, and pure joy, these works on paper curl, swell, and swirl with texture, depth, volume, luminosity and the quality of time. The vertical panes of vacuum deposited thin films of silicon monoxide interfere with the light similar to a quartz prism. This interference results in the phenomenon we experience as color. Eerie futuristic mirages appear as if doorways to the other side. Somehow the pieces evoke mirror images as if silently telepathically speaking directly to the viewer a hidden message, rippling in the iridescent multicolored metallurgy." - Angel Chen.

The video below doesn't talk about the work featured here but about Larry Bell's early works, interesting.

Nicholas Bohac

Nicholas Bohac is a San Francisco based mix media artist, originally from Omaha, Nebraska. Bohac says us a little of his life and his colored and abstract pieces;

"I'm married to my awesome wife, Kim, and we have two cats and one Roomba vacuuming robot. I used to play bass and tour with a punk band from Omaha, Caught in the Fall, and I'll be having a solo show at the Bemis Underground this spring.

As for my work, I've been focusing on creating landscapes that show the intersection of where people have been and where nature begins. In the past, I've thought of the process almost like I'm creating a flattened diorama, using mixed media, painting and collage to compose the imagery. The new work that will go up at the Bemis in a few months is going to be more vibrant and show a little more contrast, and visual and simple representations of fractals are going to be a lot more prevalent and obvious in the work. There will also be a narrative focus the idea of a disintegrating and exploded landscape, brought on by geologic and human interactions with our surroundings." See more;

(Esp) Nicholas Bohac es un artista con sede en San francisco, originario de Omaha, Nebraska. Combina varias técnicas para realizar sus coloreadas y abstractas piezas, a continuación nos cuenta un poco de su vida y sobre su trabajo;

Thank you Nicholas!
