"Cylinder" surgió de un deseo de crear objetos complejos que partiesen de los abrumadores detalles que tiene la naturaleza. Andy Huntington y Drew Allan querian crear formas generadas algoritmicamente de una forma rápida usando técnicas capaces de esculpir objetos extremadamente complejos. Sin embargo, en lugar de utilizar código para generar la complejidad, se dedicaron a capturar la complejidad natural que nos rodea. Con frecuencias de sonido dentro del rango del oído humano en cortos períodos de tiempo. Hicieron de una forma tangible y permanente esculturas que representan una muestra de los determinados tiempos de sonido capturado. El software creado para este fin permite variar la resolución (tanto en tiempo como en frecuencia) con un salida de un archivo STL se pueden crear rápidamente estos prototipos. Cylinder grew out of a desire to create truly complex objects which hint at the overwhelming detail present in nature. Andy Huntington & Drew Allan wished to create algorhythmically generated works which would be rapid prototyped using techniques capable of sculpting extremely complex objects.

However, instead of using code to generate complexity they turned their attention to capturing natural complexity. Taking sound frequencies within the range of human hearing over a short period of time we rendered them in a tangible and permanent manner, as sculptures representing a sample of time.

The software created for this purpose allows variations in resolution (both in time and frequency) and outputs an STL file which can be sent for rapid prototyping.

In addition to caputuring music they took sound samples from spaces, creating site specific sculptures reflecting the acoustic of an environment.

The sculptures created were between 200 – 400mm tall.
